Blue Phantom Lumbar Puncture and Spinal Epidural training model offers clinicians the flexibility to practice and teach a wide variety of procedures including lumbar puncture, lumbar epidural, thoracic epidural, and cervical epidural diagnostic and therapeutic procedures*. This Lumbar Puncture trainer with Lumbar Epidural is available in a variety of configurations to meet your training needs. The base model contains the lumbar puncture and lumbar epidural configuration. Users are able to add an additional spinal region to the base platform at an additional cost. These optional configurations include thoracic epidural and cervical epidural modules.

The Lumbar Puncture model with Spinal Epidural access is excellent in its realism, quality and durability offering you the ability to use ultrasound or utilize blind insertion techniques while performing lumbar puncture or epidural procedures to access the epidural or subarachnoid space. Blue Phantom's Lumbar Puncture model is superb for needle access as well as the placement of catheters.
*The thoracic tissue module and cervical tissue module are optional and available at an additional cost.

Blue Phantom’s adult spinal epidural and lumbar puncture trainer can be positioned in the upright or lateral decubitus position allowing users to accurately position the model for appropriate training scenarios.

For lumbar puncture and lumbar epidural procedures the use of external landmarks as the iliac crests can be palpated in the model to initially orient the user to the proper access points. Further palpation of the spinous processes provides additional landmarks. The accessory obese spinal insert* provides more adipose tissue disallowing the palpation of the spinal processes.
*The obese spinal insert tissue module is optional and available at an additional cost.

The Lumbar Puncture trainer's tissue module is superb in its realism and contains the entire lumbar spine, skin tissue, ligamentum flavum, epidural space, dura, subarachnoid membrane, and subarachnoid cistern containing cerebral spinal fluid. Blue Phantom's Lumbar Puncture trainer with Spinal Epidural access can be utilized for full procedural training. Users can inject local anesthetics, introduce the needle to the epidural space and/or subarachnoid space (performs “spinal taps”), thread catheters, infuse simulated anesthetics, and obtain manometer measurements – all while experiencing a realistic tissue response including the pop encountered when traversing the ligamentum flavum, loss of resistance when entering the epidural space, and cerebral spinal fluid flow when the spinal cistern is accurately accessed. The cerebral spinal fluid pressures can be easily increased in order to simulate pathological scenarios.

The optional thoracic or cervical/upper thoracic spine insert allows users to practice thoracic or cervical epidural needle and catheter placements and shares the same superior performance and realism as the lumbar spine tissue insert. Users are able to perform epidural procedures and cerebral spinal fluid is present in the model as a way of providing the user immediate feedback as to procedural complications.

Blue Phantom tissue is extremely durable and is self-healing which saves you money by reducing the need to repeatedly purchase replacement parts. All injected fluids - local anesthetics as well as epidural fluid infusions – are automatically expelled and cerebral spinal fluid that is removed is easily refilled using quick refill ports.

This Lumbar Puncture model with Spinal Epidural is superb for utilizing blind insertion techniques for lumbar puncture and spinal epidural procedures or performing ultrasound guided lumbar puncture, ultrasound guided lumbar epidural procedures, ultrasound guided thoracic epidural procedures and ultrasound guided cervical epidural procedures. Ultrasound can be used for identification of the optimal insertion points, angle of needle insertion, and determination of the depth to the ligamentum flavum, epidural space, and spinal cistern – which is especially important when performing procedures using the obese spinal tissue insert.
